Girls Soccer
Varsity: Central Valley 4, Johansen 0
The Hawks braved the storm last night and took care of business with a solid 4-0 win over the Johansen Vikings. The win puts the Hawks overall record at an impressive 18-2-1 and 11-1 in the WAC. This win clinched the WAC Championship for our girls soccer team!! Congrats to Coach Larranaga and our varsity girls soccer team on an amazing season so far. The Hawks will now prepare for the post-season as they have 2 more regular season games to go. CV will travel to Lathrop this Thursday to take on the Spartans and then the regular season will close out with the crosstown showdown against Ceres High on Tuesday, February 11th at River Bluff. The CIF SJS playoff brackets will be posted on Wednesday, February 12th around 3pm as the Hawks await their playoff seeding fate.
Boys Soccer
Varsity: Central Valley 3, Johansen 0
The Hawks returned to form with a clutch 3-0 league win over the Johansen Vikings. The pounding rain did not deter the Hawks from sticking to their game plan to play fast and aggressive. The CV goals came from Enrique Lopez (2) & Evan Holliday, assisted by Diego Ochoa & Tahte Yang. The Hawks move to 14-6-6 overall, 9-1-2 in WAC. This win put the Hawks just one win away from clinching the WAC title. A CV win against Lathrop on Thursday or a Pacheco loss, would give the Hawks the outright WAC title. CV currently sits in 1st place at 9-1-2 (29 points) and Pacheco in 2nd at 8-3-1 (25 points). In addition to the Lathrop game on Thursday, CV will finish up the regular season next Tuesday at Ceres High in the crosstown showdown. In a sign of great sportsmanship, this will be a Senior Night for both the Bulldogs and the Hawks as they share the District field to honor seniors on both teams. Just like our CV girls program, our boys will learn of their playoff fate next Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks are currently the #8 ranked team in Division I with the hopes that a few late season wins might push them up a bit before the final seeding is released.
Boys Basketball (from Monday night)
Varsity: Beyer 55, Central Valley 47
JV: Central Valley defeats Beyer
Frosh: Central Valley defeats Beyer
The Hawks gave the first place Beyer Patriots all they could handle on Monday night, but fell just short of the upset. With the 55-47 defeat, CV fell into 4th place with 4 very important games remaining. The race for the 3rd and final WAC playoff spot appears to be a 2-team race between the Hawks and the Johansen Vikings. CV will host the Livingston Wolves tonight as they look to get back in the win column to put themselves in striking distance of the Vikings. The Hawks and Vikings will meet Friday night at Johansen, but CV can’t afford to overlook tonight’s game against the Wolves. It will be one step at a time for the Hawks as they look to make things interesting down the stretch. Good luck to our boys tonight as they also celebrate Senior Night here at CV. The win for the Frosh boys keeps them in 2nd place and the JV win allows the Hawks to hold down 1st place.
Girls Basketball (from Monday)
Varsity: Beyer 46, Central Valley 38
On Monday night, the Lady Hawks put up a good fight, but fell to the Beyer Patriots by the score of 46-38. CV will look to pick up a win this Thursday night when they host the Johansen Vikings. Next week, the Hawks will close out their season when they host Lathrop on Tuesday and travel to Ceres High next Thursday.
